Radiator Support Lip Strengthening
Purpose:
1) Reduce flex of the radiator support lip.
2) Provide a strong point to attach hood pins to.
3) Add to the overall front impact protection.
I initially had problems with the hood pins flexing too much and giving me a headache trying to close the hood. There really
is no other place to drill the holes for the hood pins other then in the top lip of the radiator support. So this is where the idea for
running the flat bar underneath came from. In addition, without the hood latch support you can flex the whole top part of the radiator
support with one hand.
I don't have too many shots of this project but there's really nothing to it. Just weld a 1 x 1/8 flat bar running under
the top lip of the radiator core support. I drill holes for spot welds across the whole lip and drilled about 50% of
the way thru the flat bar in those same areas to make for better spot welds. |

| Here's a shot after I welded the piece in. I put a couple more welds underneath and welded the ends of the flat bar
to the front fender extensions. I probably should have cut slits in the fender extension and ran the flat bar out past it on either
side. |
